Come out and take a Walk in the Park!

HAMPTON, NEWPORT NEWS, POQUOSON, WILLIAMSBURG, GLOUCESTER, JAMES CITY & YORK COUNTIES, VIRGINIA – November 22, 2011 - The Volunteer Center of the Virginia Peninsula in partnership with Newport News Parks and Recreation is preparing for the 1st Annual Walk in the Park, – a family fun, fitness, and fundraiser event. This one-night-only opportunity to walk through the Celebration in Lights is open to anyone wishing to participate. The Walk is also an opportunity for area nonprofit agencies, school groups, and other nonprofits to benefit from funds being raised through this event.

The Walk in the Park kicks off with plenty of holiday cheer on Tuesday, November 22, 2011 from 5 pm until 7 pm at Woodside High School in Newport News. A visit by Elizabeth Crot “Miss Virginia 2011” and Mrs. Claus is planned and we hope even the very busy Santa himself will stop by. Tax deductible tickets are $10.00 per person or $25 for groups of 5 people, children in arms 2 years and under are free. Proceeds support The Volunteer Center programs and help to meet the volunteer needs of 205 nonprofits, schools and local governments in our communities. Participants can collect sponsorship donations to support their favorite nonprofit groups. All participants, whether fundraising or not, enjoy the premier walk through the Celebration in Lights before it opens to cars and buses. Join hundreds of Walk in the Park participants, support The Volunteer Centers programs and the nonprofit of your choice and ring in the holidays at Newport News Park.
