2009 Day of Caring Photo Gallery

The Volunteer Center partners with United Way of the Virginia Peninsula to promote volunteerism on the Peninsula by matching people who want to help with local organizations who need them. This partnership is strongly manifested in the United Way annual Day of Caring - an opportunity for employees in the workplace to volunteer for a single day to work on community projects throughout our local area. Whether it is painting, landscaping, building a playground or revitalizing a neighborhood, this single day of difference is United Way's most popular annual event.

United Way couldn't be effective in our community without volunteers. Volunteers provide governance and oversight; evaluate agency programs; make funding decisions; and play an important role in our annual fundraising campaign.

The 2009 Day of Caring was held September 11th with more than 700 volunteers participating in 65 community projects. Pictured here, volunteers from TowneBank captivate preschoolers at Downtown Hampton Child Development Center with a Spanish lesson they developed themselves.
